Since mid-April, the Sikasso region in southern Mali has experienced a significant resurgence in terrorist actions, marked by multiple attacks using improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and intimidation tactics targeting local populations.
These offensives come as the Defense and Security Forces (DSF) and the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDH) intensify their operations in the Burkinabé border area (Solenzo, Banwa Province), forcing terrorist groups to retreat towards Koutiala and Yorosso in Malian territory.
By multiplying IED attacks and kidnappings, the terrorists aim to hinder the mobility of Malian forces in the area and cast doubt on the announced stability, thereby undermining confidence in a return to normal civilian life.
