Benin: New terrorist attack against a military base in the Northeast (Alibori)

On February 4, 2025, terrorists attacked a Beninese army base between Kandi and Guéné (Alibori). The defense and security forces’ (FDS) response forced the attackers to retreat towards W National Park, with no military casualties.

This is the second attack in a month, following the January 8 attack against an “Operation Mirador” site in Banikoara, which resulted in 28 deaths, thus demonstrating terrorist groups’ determination to establish a sanctuary in the entire southern area of W Park.

While the February 4 attack had a considerable impact, the recent response demonstrates strengthened capabilities and increased vigilance of the Beninese army in the North.”
