Last week, between Soribougou and Négala (Koulikoro), a ministerial convoy (that of the Minister of Environment) was attacked by presumed terrorists. This attack resulted in the death of a member of the Defense and Security Forces and wounded ten others. The incident is part of a series of attacks directed against state representatives (attack on February 13, 2025, occurring between Niéna and Sikasso, targeting the convoy of the Minister of Higher Education).
The targeting of authorities by terrorist groups requires planning based on prior intelligence, allowing them to anticipate official routes, likely through informants and/or an active presence on the ground.
By directly attacking state representatives, less than 100km from Bamako, these groups aim to weaken governmental authority, hinder its actions on the ground, and increase insecurity on strategic routes.
